AA Abrasives’ Unitized Wheels are designed to improve quality, increase productivity, and lower manufacturing costs. These multi finishing grinding wheels are excellent for cleaning, deburring, blending, finishing, and polishing. The structure of Unitized Wheels  minimizes heat build up to extend wheel life.  These wheels are less conforming than other preparation wheels to ensure a more consistent and uniform finish.

Unitized wheels are constructed by bonding and compressing layers of abrasives impregnated with non-woven nylon making it more aggressive than a Surface Prep Wheel. On a flat surface a unitized wheel will outlast the surface prep wheel making it a more efficient method for deburring, polishing and cleaning.

AA Abrasives, Inc. carries three types of Unitized Wheels.

2SF - is a softer less aggressive unitized wheel made with silicon carbide and is considered a fine.  This specific wheel is used in applications calling for a very fine non aggressive finish. Specifications: 4-1/2x7/8 #2SF Grey T-27 11,000 RPM  Item #33735.

Suggested Application for a 2SF unitized wheel - polishing mechanical parts such as blades, welds and threads or softer metals such as brass, aluminum, and copper. 

3SF - is considered a medium-soft silicon carbide fine grit. Specifications: 4-1/2x7/8 #3SF Grey T-27 11,000 RPM  Item #33736.

Suggested Application for a 3SF unitized wheel is cleaning heavy scale and oxidation on alloys, titanium and stainless.  

2AM - is considered a medium density with an aluminum oxide grain. This unitized wheel is the most aggressive and is recommended on heavier steels such as carbon and stainless steel. Specifications:  4-1/2x7/8 #2AM Tan T-27 11,000 RPM  Item #33737.

Suggested Application for the 2AM  unitized wheel - heavy blending or substantial burr marks on heavier steel. The 2AM unitized wheel will work on sharpened edges.

Use these unitized wheels on a variable speed grinder such as a Walter Big Buff 30-A-265 

or a Metabo 14-125VS Variable speed . You can decrease the RPM for duller finishes and polishes.

Surface Prep Wheels and Surface Polishing Wheels - AA Abrasives Inc

AA Abrasives, Inc. has added a line of surface preparation and polishing wheels in both aluminum oxide - red/maroon and silicon carbide - grey. Both types of abrasive wheels are available in either a 4-1/2 x 7/8 or 4-1/2 x 5/8-11 arbor hole from stock.  These surface prep wheels are usually used after a Unitized Wheel.  The softer density allows for the surface prep wheels to conform to contours more easily. The surface preparation line is designed for blending, smoothing and finishing stainless steel, steel, aluminum and nonferrous metals.

Surface preparation and polishing wheels

Made from non woven material impregnated with abrasive grains, the polishing wheels remove paint, rust and welding discoloration from stainless steel. The Type 27 shape surface preparation wheels are available in aluminum oxide and silicon carbide grains in 4 1/2" and 7" diameters to fit most right angle grinders. They are designed with reduced backing to lessen work piece scratching and allow for maximum use of the wheel material. These wheels are heat and moisture resistant allowing consistent performance for your surface preparation needs.  These prep wheels complement our full selection of Preparation and Polishing Products.

Available from stock 4-1/2 x 7/8 or 4-1/2 x 5/8-11 surface preparation and polishing wheels.  The 7" surface preparation and polishing wheels are available by special order in 7 x 7/8 or 7 x 5/8-11. Please contact us for pricing on 7" surface preparation and polishing wheels.

The aluminum oxide surface preparation and polishing wheel is considered a fine grit size suitable for cleaning, blending and finishing stainless steel. The red/maroon colored disc is made with aluminum oxide grain. It is excellent for high polish finishes on brass.

The silicon carbide surface prep and polishing wheel is considered a very fine in grit size and provides light finishes on metal and satin finish aluminum.  The gray surface prep and polishing wheel is referred to as an Ultra Fine and is made with silicon carbide grain.  These surface prep and polishing wheels are used for polishing ferrous and nonferrous metals as well as marble. They are excellent for rust and paint removal as well as surface blending.

AA Abrasives’ 9x11 premium gold aluminum oxide no-load sand paper sheets are great for sanding water based finishes, special stearate coating will not leave fish eyes.  These abrasive sheets are non-loading and do not leave a residue.  Other applications include sanding metals, woods, fiberglass, composites, plastics, lacquers, paint, body fillers and other dry sanding uses.  Gold sandpaper sheets are known for their fast cut rates, flexibility and consistent finishes.  They are resin on resin bond and high quality latex backed paper.  AA Abrasives premium aluminum oxide gold sandpaper sheets last 3 times longer than our competitors’ traditional sandpaper.  #60 grit thru #120 grit are C-weight, #150 grit thru #320 grit are B-weight, and #400 grit and #600 grit are A-weight backed paper.
